West Highland White Terrier or “Westie” Description
One of the many types of terriers that people now have as companion and show dogs is the west highland white terrier westie. These dogs, with the proper training, can be great for those with families as well as those who live alone, as long as they get the plenty of affection and exercise. This is one of the types of terriers that is better behaved around children and other animals, so it has become more popular. They can also do alright in apartments, which some larger dogs do not. Towns, cities, and rural areas are all okay with westies, and they can stand a certain amount of heat and cold, so they are pretty flexible dogs when it comes to the environment that they can live in.

I couldn’t believe that I was able to find our dog at the shelter just around the corner. My kids will be so happy.

Finding Good West Highland White Terrier Puppies
Finding good quality West Highland White Terrier Puppies for your pet or conformation showing can be a very important task. On one hand this breed lives to an average of 15 years. If you do select a puppy one should be careful of the one genetic problem that Westies have. Puppies between 3 and 6 months can get what is commonly known as “Lion’s Jaw”. This gene is passed from mother and father to the effected puppy. The breeder may not know that the parents are carriers until one of the litters has an effected puppy. This degenerative problem spontaneously goes away around 12 months of age.

The mere whisper of the words “Let’s go” unleashes boundless enthusiasm in him. We make great traveling companions because I also get pretty hyped when I hear those words, although I try not to leap around …
